Savanuck
Robert R. Hughes and Daniel F. Savanuck founded Chemspec on April 1, 1968. Chemspec was born on the premise that there was room in the marketplace for a company totally dedicated to the needs of the carpet and upholstery cleaning industry. Based on this premise, Chemspec started. Our first customers were Professional Carpet Cleaners, contractors whose primary job is cleaning residential and commercial carpet.
As a result of our efforts, Chemspec is known and respected worldwide not only as an innovator of products, but as a problem solver. In addition, Chemspec provides skilled direction in the use of our cleaning agents both in plant and on location. Our innovations have become the standard within the industry today. Old Product

Some of the products and methods first introduced to the industry by Chemspec are:

Traffic Lane Cleaner
The first pretreatment product and procedure formulated by Dan Savanuck for heavily soiled carpet areas. Traffic Lane Cleaner is now a standard application on all man made carpet fibers.

Chewing Gum Remover
The first fast freeze method that uses Freon to remove bubble gum. The idea of freezing chewing gum for easy removal was conceived by Bob Hughes when he was challenged with removing bubble gum from carpeting while visiting a commercial customer.

Enzyme Carpet Shampoo
Formulated by Dan Savanuck to address the problem of food stains on carpet as well as other protein based stains. Enzyme Carpet Shampoo was a major breakthrough in chemistry that aided technicians whose work included cleaning restaurant carpeting.

Biosolv®
An outside licensing agreement with a German based company resulted in Dan Savanuck receiving a sample of a water soluble citrus solvent. This sample was the first appearance of “oil of orange” in the United States and Chemspec incorporated this unique chemistry into several of our products. Chemspec trademarked the name “Biosolv” to describe this new “natural” citrus solvent.
